Rural life in the Nom and Bronze villages of Long Thuong, the pottery-making experience in Bat Trang
8:00 AM: Departure to visit the Nom village, an ancient village dating back over 200 years that preserves the characteristics of a traditional village with its gateway, market, pagoda, and stone bridges. Experience the rustic atmosphere of the village by walking across stone bridges, meeting the locals, and exploring the local market if it's market day (please check with us). Finally, visit the Nom Pagoda with its beautiful architecture, a spiritual hub attracting many pilgrims from neighboring regions during spring festivals. Continue with a stroll to the Bronze Craft Village of Long Thuong, dating back to the 13th century. Once specialized in crafting statues and bells, the village now focuses on producing worship materials like tripodal cauldrons, cranes, candle holders, lamps, trays, incense bowls, etc. Each bronze product is a convergence of dedication and artisanal talent. A skilled copper artisan must master five sophisticated techniques, including molding molds for casting in copper, preparing copper melting, and casting, sculpting the product's surface. Bronze casting not only requires technique but also complexity, patience, and passion to produce a perfect item.
Afterward, head to the Bat Trang Craft Village located on the banks of the Red River, about twenty kilometers from Hanoi. Bat Trang is renowned for its beautiful ceramics and is one of Vietnam's most famous traditional craft villages. Its products are shipped worldwide. Upon arrival, you'll see adjacent shops selling both antique and modern ceramics. Begin your excursion by visiting the Bat Trang Pagoda, where locals worship the ancient artisans who founded the village. Wander through the village to a family workshop where you'll interact with artisans at work, observing these meticulous craftsmen in action. The guide will explain all the production processes, from selecting clay and treating and mixing additives to shaping forms, drawing, heating, and finishing products. Optionally, you can try your hand at some techniques by creating your ceramic object with the assistance of an artisan and take home your new creation as a souvenir of shared moments during your stay in Bat Trang. Take photos with the artisans, stroll through the village to visit traditional ceramic kilns, and then head to the village market. Explore beautiful items in the shops to find some gifts for your family and friends before returning to Hanoi. Return to the hotel at the end of the day.
