Itinerary
Your English-speaking guide will pick you up at the GP Travel Office to begin the discovery of Hanoi's street cuisine—a paradise of Vietnamese gastronomy. Take a leisurely walk and explore the local life around Hoan Kiem Lake (or Sword Lake). You'll feel like a local as you navigate narrow alleys or hidden tunnel streets in the Old Quarter (a narrow hidden path, privately shared by a community of residents.)
Make several stops along the way at different corners of the 36 streets: a Temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess, the ancient O Quan Chuong Gate, and the local markets of Dong Xuan and Thanh Ha. In the markets, discover various local spices, medicinal herbs, vegetables, fruits, seafood, and more.
Pause at makeshift street stands on the sidewalks, inhale the enticing aromas emanating from these street kitchens, and taste the capital's must-try specialties:
Sample various dishes according to your preference: well-known city specialties such as Pho (beef noodle soup) or Bun Cha with grilled pork patties served with vermicelli, rice dumplings, crab noodle soup, or unusual dishes like fertilized eggs, shrimp sauce, silkworms, etc. Savor the sublime egg coffee in a typical café or traditional medicinal herb rice liquor in a shop on Lan Ong Street.
All dishes offered are often cooked on the same day with ingredients bought a few hours earlier at the market (however, follow your guide's advice to maintain food hygiene.) With this gastronomic stroll, you will undoubtedly be amazed by Hanoi's street food—it's abundant, diverse, fragrant, and present everywhere and all day. It is an integral part of the livelihoods of many residents.
Thanks to a delicate balance between fresh herbs and meats, along with a selective use of spices to achieve a subtle and balanced taste, Vietnamese cuisine stands out both in taste and aroma. The fine blend of all the fresh ingredients that make up these dishes is also a reason why Vietnamese cuisine is often considered one of the healthiest and most balanced in the world.
Tantalize your taste buds by choosing this authentic excursion. After your "Street Food Tour," you can opt for a cyclo ride through the French colonial concession.
