15 Days North - West Saturday, 29.05.2010, 02:02pm (GMT7) Day 01: Hanoi Arrival ( D)
On arrival welcome at airport, transfer to Hanoi city, check in hotel. Dinner at a restaurant. Overnight at hotel. Day 02: Hanoi city tour (B, L, D) Pick up at hotel then transfer to do city tour with Hoan Kiem lake, Hochiminh mausoleum (closed on every Monday and Friday and October, November) and museum, One Pillar pagoda, Temple of Literature, West lake, Tran Quoc pagoda. Lunch at a restaurant, Continue to visit Ethnology museum. Cyclo tour around Hanoi old quarter, enjoy water puppet show, back to hotel and free in evening. Day 03: Hanoi – Maichau (B, L, D) (160km) 8.00am pick you up from hotel, depart Hanoi to Mai Chau via Hoa Binh town (160Km), through picturesque scenery with stunning views of the mountains on the way. Lunch in hill tribe village. Visit Mai Chau located in pretty valley with a patchwork of rice paddies, farms and stilt houses. The area is the home of many minorities including Muong and Thai. Short trekking to visit Thai villages. Dinner and overnight on stilt house in evening enjoy the traditional dance of Thai minority Day 04: Maichau – Sonla (B, L, D) (170km)
Spend time at village for trekking and then late in morning we will drive to Sonla, Spend the whole day on coach relishing the new road through Hoang Lien Son Mountains(170km). Take a stop-over to trekking visit Xa Linh village. Enjoy the sceneries of tea plan station in Moc Chau…. Arrive at Son La visit Son La prison, Dinner and over night in Sonla. Day 05: Sonla – Dien Bien Phu (B, L, D) (170km) Before leaving for Dien Bien Phu (170km), visit Thuan Chau Market where Black Thai women gather to exchange all kinds of farm products and hand-weaving brocades. Stop by at Pha Din Pass, famous for its magnificent mountain scenery. In the afternoon, travel via Muong Phang, enjoy a short trek through dense forest (1km) to visit General Giap's legendary tunnels. Thai villages surrounded by paddy fields are worth visiting en route. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu. Day 06: Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau (B, L, D) (105 km) Dien Bien Phu, a famous valley at an elevation of 550m by the Vietnam ' Laos border. In the morning, explore Dien Bien Market and former battle field: Dien Bien Phu museum, Eliance Hill (A1 Hill), Nam Rom River and De Castries' bunker. Transfer to Lai Chau (105km), a small town along Nam Lay Stream, encounter Red H’mong village en route. Overnight in Lai Chau Day 07: Lai Chau - Sapa (B, L, D) (180 km) Admire the beautiful Lai Ha Suspension Bridge and Hang Tom Suspension Bridge near Lai Chau Town. Leave for Sapa (180km) via a picturesque road along the Nam Na River and across Hoang Lien Son, the highest pass in Vietnam (2,047 metres). The rest of the day is free time to wander around Sapa Town, home to different hill-tribes. The evening entertainment is a tribal folk show at a bar. Overnight in Sapa. Day 08: Sapa Trekking (B, L, D) The range of Phan Si Pan boasts Vietnam's highest mountain and lends an alpine feel to the area surrounding this hill station. Today we have enough time to visit the bustling Sa Pa Market where the Red Dao, Black Hmong, Tay and Xa Pho ethnic minorities converge from the nearby mountainsides and valleys to trade their goods and buy provisions. We then get well off the beaten track as we embark on a walk to explore this beautiful mountain region. Along the way we traverse several rustic villages and see many mountaineers doing their daily works such as logging, herding buffalo and tilling the field. The blend of verdant mountain backdrop and colourful population makes for an unimaginable view. Day 09: Sapa – Muong Khuong market – Bacha (B, L, D) (or optional visit Bacha market) After breakfast we continue venturing into northern Vietnam, travelling through the Chinese border town of Lao Cai to the colourful Sunday Market at Muong Khuong. This market also attracts a wide variety of ethnic minority groups including the Variegated Hmong, Dao, Phu La, La Chi, Tay who still retain their age old cultural traditions and are recognisably distinct from each other by their dress. The experience of this congregation is unique. Upon leaving Muong Khuong, we drive to Bac Ha. As option , we can embark a walk this afternoon, visiting the Hmong King's former residence and Ban Pho where the villagers make the potent local maize wine . O/N in Bac Ha. Day 10: Bacha – Tuyenquang – Backan (B, L, D) (250km) After breakfast we will drive from BacHa - TuyenQuang - Thai Nguyen - BacKan. 250 km. Enjoy great sceneries on the ways .Over night at Homestay Day 11: Babe – Caobang (B) The national park of Ba Be is centred on large Ba Be Lake. This is just one continuous water body although its name means ''three lakes''. Today we embark on our boat navigating around the lake, which gives us a taste of relaxation and an enjoyable visit to the park . Along the way, we make stopover at some hill tribe villages before getting off the beaten track to the Dau Dang Waterfalls. The cruise continues on the main water source of Ba Be Lake up to Cho Ra. At this small village, we meet up with our vehicle and drive towards Cao Bang, our final destination. Overnight in Cao Bang. Day 12: Caobang - Bangioc Waterfall – Caobang (B) Heading out of the town we start venturing into the most northern region of Cao Bang Province. The scenic roads traverse Trung Khanh before arriving at Ban Gioc Waterfall, which boasts the largest waterfall in Vietnam. We visit this sight and follow our trip to Nguom Ngao Caves, just off the road to Cao Bang. This enormous cave has two main entrances and one branch reaching almost all the way to the waterfalls where is a 'secret' entrance. A local guide is provided for your exploration of the cave. On the way back, you can make stops as you please, to visit hill tribe villages and take pictures. Overnight in Caobang. Day 13: Caobang - Pacpo Cave – Langson (B) An early morning departure to the historical cave of Pac Po where Ho Chi Minh set up the headquarter for the August Vietnamese Revolution in 1945. After seeing this vestige site we set off on a half day drive past the verdant and rugged mountain landscape, with a mixture of terraced rice fields and hill villages. We also traverse Dong Khe and That Khe on our way to Lang Son. This border town had been all destroyed during the recent Sino - Vietnamese war, but was rebuilt to become an important trade center in north eastern region. Overnight in Langson Day 14: Langson - Tienyen – Van Don - Quanlan (B, L, D) The central market of Lang Son and the legendary Tam Thanh Cave are visited this morning before we travel by roads to Halong Bay, truly one of Vietnam's most impressive scenic sights. The journey is 90km long and challenging at times as we drive through many mountain areas. Their breathtaking scenery is some of the best in Asia. We encounter en route many ethnic minorities doing their daily works such as logging, herding buffalo and tilling the field. On arrival to Van Don, we get on our boat and cruise on Bai Tu Long Bay, this is a Bay similar like Ha Long but less tourist, we will stop for swimming and sightseeing, it take around 3 hours to arrive to Quan Lan, On arrive get on a Tuk Tuk and transfer 14 km through the island to resort for overnight. Day 15 : Halong – Hanoi (B, L) You are free to relax on the beaches lunch on boat and then check out hotel then we will transfer to the port, get on our boat and cruise back to Van Don, transfer to Hanoi, on arrive check in hotel and free in evening Day 16: Hanoi - Departure(B) You are free for shopping or visiting Hanoi until time we transfer you to airport for departure flight.
