VDTS01: Cu Chi Tunnels – Half Day

You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to Cu Chi tunnels, located northwest of downtown Ho Chi Minh City. This vast underground system was created in 1948 to assist the Viet Minh in their battle against the French. Afterwards, the complex tunnels kept being built and extended over 25 years. Indeed, it played a big role during Vietnam War and acted like a real underground city with living areas, kitchens, storage units, field hospitals, weapons factories, and command centers. At its peak, it housed around 10,000 people who virtually lived underground for years, with some getting married and giving birth to children inside the tunnels. During the Vietnam War, the entire Cu Chi area was designated as a free-fire zone and was heavily bombarded. After a 4-hour visit, we will drive back to Ho Chi Minh City and drop you off at your hotel. End of the tour.

VDTS03: Cao Dai Temple & Cu Chi Tunnels Tour – Full Day

Caodaism is a religion originating from Tay Ninh and combining the principles of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism while having a hierarchical organization similar to that of Roman Catholicism. One particularity of this monotheistic religion is that its most revered saints include the likes of Buddha, Jesus Christ, Confucius, Muhammad but also Julius Cesar, Pericles, Joan of Arc, Victor Hugo, or Sun-Yat Sen. However, Cao Dai (literally, “Highest Lord”) is the utmost deity and the originator of the universe. Founded by Ngo Van Chieu in 1926, Caodaism counted as much as 500,000 followers in 1930 and as of today, estimates vary between 2 to 6 million followers.

In the morning, we will drive to Tay Ninh and visit a Cao Dai temple. We will also attend the fantastic mid-day service when the followers fill the hall wearing colored robes, a symbol of the curious combination of the Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.
After lunch, we will drive to Cu Chi, home of the world-famous tunnel complex. This vast underground system was created in 1948 to assist the Viet Minh in their battle against the French. Afterwards, the tunnel complex kept being built and extended over 25 years. Indeed, it played a big role during Vietnam War and acted as a real underground city with living areas, kitchens, storage units, field hospitals, weapons factories, and command centers. At its peak, it housed around 10,000 people who virtually lived underground for years, with some getting married and giving birth to children inside the tunnels.
