Nghia Lo is a tiny provincial town located in the middle of a wide rice fields surrounded by mountains. It’s the second larger rice field plain in Northern Vietnam, after Dien Bien region. For tourists, Nghia Lo is a good showcase of the lifestyle and culture of people in the mountainous regions.




Nghia Lo has been the capital of the Black Thai ethnic minority for the past 700 years. The Black Thais are experts at digging canals and building installations for routing water to every plot of rice fields. Sticky rice is their staple food.
