Sapa is a mountain resort located in Lao Cai province, at 1,600m in the heart of a charming mountain range. It is the main town of the region. The H’Mong, Dao, Gia, Tay and many other ethnic minorities gather there at local markets. In the past, during the French colonization era, Sapa was a renowned summer resort and today, its rice terraces and its fabulous mountains have transformed it in one of the most famous destinations in Vietnam.



The best way to discover the real beauty of Sapa is trek on mountain slopes and far in the valleys, where you can cross suspended bridges, bamboo forests and ethnic villages.

Among the most famous markets around Sapa: the amazing weekly market of Bac Ha (every Sunday), the lively Can Cau market (Saturday).

You can find high-end hotels in Sapa, but you can also spend the night in a homestay or in a bungalow overlooking the rice fields.

The Fansipan
The Fansipan Mountain, the “Roof of Indochina”, is in the extreme southeastern tip of the Himalayan chain. Its peak culminates at 3,143m. Numerous travel agencies offers trips to climb to the summit of the Fansipan. 

Muong Hoa Valley
Located at 10km South-East of Sapa, Muong Hoa is an incredible valley where several ethnic minorities coexist together amidst a wild nature: Black H’Mong, Dzay and Red Dzao. Muong Hoa is home to the best rice terraces of Sapa, constituting a true masterpiece and making the pride of local residents.
