Located at 240km from Hanoi, in Ba Be National Park (Ban Can province), it is one of the largest freshwater lake in the world. In spite of its calcareous soil and its location at 145m above sea level, Ba Be Lake never runs dry. It covers 500ha, its length is 8km and its width is 3km, while its depth varies between 20m and 30m.

Ba Be Lake is divided in three “bays” called Pelam, Pelu and Peleng by locals. The region offers a great variety of landscapes to visitors: waterfalls, rivers, valleys, lakes and caves. The lake is surrounded by limestone mountains and lush forests that are home to hundreds of plant species and thousands of animals.

Several ethnic groups live together around the lake (Tay, Dao, H'Mong and Kinh).
